Pixel users updating to Android 16 are reporting multiple usability issues, including a persistent bug that causes significant screen wake-up delays. The latest version of Google’s mobile OS, dubbed “Baklava,” introduces several new features, but for many users, performance setbacks are overshadowing the enhancements.
Numerous Pixel 9 Pro XL owners have flagged a wake-up delay bug that renders the screen unresponsive for several seconds. The problem surfaces when trying to wake the phone via double-tap or the power button, although functionality returns to normal after the delay. However, the issue reappears every time the display is turned off.
A Reddit post by user jdawg0024 was among the first to highlight the issue, sparking widespread discussion. Users across multiple Reddit threads and online forums have confirmed similar experiences.
Responding to user concerns, the official Pixel Community support account acknowledged the problem. Google is reportedly working on a fix to be included in a future update. In the interim, users are advised to reboot their devices as a temporary workaround.
Additional user-suggested steps include disabling both "Tap to check phone" and "Lift to check phone" from Settings > Display & touch > Lock screen, followed by restarting and re-enabling the settings. While this has worked for some, others report only short-term relief.
The screen wake-up delay isn’t the only concern. A range of performance issues has emerged following the Android 16 rollout. Based on user reports from Reddit and social platform X, here are the common bugs:
* Fingerprint unlock becoming slow or unresponsive
* Lock screen freezing intermittently
* Delayed or failed screen gestures
* Fluctuating auto-brightness behavior
* Broken auto-rotate functionality
* Unresponsive touch input across apps
* Camera app freezing or failing to capture photos
* Android Auto disconnection
* Circle to Search feature failing to launch
Most issues appear to be software-related. Rebooting the phone often provides a temporary fix. Some users are attempting factory resets, though this wipes all personal data. Others are rolling back to Android 15 while waiting for a stable patch.
Users experiencing these issues are encouraged to submit bug reports via Google’s official feedback channels. With Android 16 released as a stable version after extended beta testing, the prevalence of such bugs has left many users frustrated.
